Majesty's Government, or the reference made, to England, regarding Major Aldrich's plan, authorize that being done.

I am directed by His Excellency, the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 11th Instant, and to inform you, that His Excellency does not think that the charge you held of the Government Timber—especially when its comparative small quantity and value are taken into consideration—would have given you any claim whatever to extra allowance, even had the precedent on which you preferred that claim not been set aside and disapproved by the Governor General of India.
Alluding to my letter of the 8th Instant, No. 51, to your address, and with reference to the important fact, formerly omitted by you, of Major General Lord Saltoun's having recommended the removal of the Retrenchment against you, I am further directed to intimate to you, "His Excellency the Governor sees no grounds for bringing your applications to the notice of Her Majesty's Government, who would of course decline to pay the least attention to it."
I am to add that this letter will be sent, under a flying Seal, for Major General Lord Saltoun's perusal and information.
